Einstein & Faith

Wes Mills May 14, 2007 11:25 AM

Walter Isaacson has recently published a new biography about Albert Einstein entitled - Einstein: His Life and Universe

Time Magazine published an excerpt from Isaacson book, under the heading “Einstein & Faith”. Einstein was Jewish, but when interviewed by George Sylvester Viereck shortly after his 50th birthday, he made some very interesting comments about Jesus – here is an excerpt from the interview.

GV. To what extent are you influenced by Christianity?

AE. “As a child I received instruction both in the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene”

GV. You accept the historical existence of Jesus?

AE “Unquestionably! No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life.”

These are very interesting words from a man who many people regard at the smartest man of the 20th Century.

In the words of Einstein, we hear echoes of the words of the disciples who encounter the resurrected Christ on the road to Emmaus when they said "Were not our hearts burning within us while he (Jesus) talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:32 NIV

I welcome your thoughts and comments.

I find it encouraging time and again as we wonder how to reach the various people(s) with the gospel effectively, that in every case in every culture that the Holy Spirit reaches through the maze of differences and touches a mans heart. We have our stereo-typed ideas as to reaching someone, where reality in Jesus says: I will transcend every language, every race, every intellect every face, until every man is reached with the news...Behold the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.....
I hope Einstein had the privilege of meeting Jesus personally, and not just intellectually.

Thanks AT5 I agree. It is one thing to have an intellectual knowledge of Jesus -- it is quite another thing to have a personal relationship with Jesus.
